Program
Teachers bring Young Playwrights to the classroom to promote literacy, creativity, problem solving, academic skills, motivation and self-empowerment for students with varying backgrounds and abilities in grades K-12.
Through extensive professional development and ongoing consultation with program staff, Young Playwrights teachers become adept at incorporating arts education into classrooms and across curricula. Each student is placed at the center of her or his own learning process.
Through introductory and ongoing creative exercises, and in a long-term writing process with a heavy emphasis on revision, each student playwright is guided to conceive and complete a one-act play.
To support and enhance excellence, Young Playwrights’ programming also includes:
- The Annual Playwriting Festival
- Student Playwrights Retreats
- Advanced Playwriting Group
- Touring Program (upcoming).
