Any student from around the region is invited to submit their plays to Philadelphia Young Playwrights’ Annual Playwriting Festival. Up to 1,000 students submit their scripts each year.
The play submission deadline for 2010 is May 14. Writers must be 19 or younger on the date of submission.

Members of Young Playwrights’ Literary Committee read each script and provide students with individualized written feedback. First, second and third place distinctions are awarded at the elementary, middle and high school levels.

BASIC READER INFO:
- Readers are responsible for reading each assigned play and writing anindividualized, constructive, and upbeat one-page response that will be sent to the student.
- We ask each Reader to read and respond to 10 plays.
- You will receive your plays in early June and your recommendations regarding these plays will be due July 15 to your Section Head.
- You will need to complete and email your written responses to your Section Head by July 31. Please carefully consider whether your summer schedule will allow you to read and respond effectively to all ten plays by that date.
- Each division - Elementary, Middle and High - is coordinated by a Section Head who reads every play in that division. Readers can confer with their Section Head if they are having difficulty responding to a particular script, or problems with meeting deadlines, etc.
