Core and Enhanced Programs

Core Program

Principals and teachers turn to Young Playwrights to provide our core program of classroom playwriting workshops.  The program primarily takes place in classrooms during the course of the normal school day. The program consists of 25 hours of classroom visits by our professional teaching artist, professional development services for the participating teacher, facilitation of an inschool mini-festival, and the services of our Literary Committee for each student writer who submits a play to our Annual Playwriting Festival.

Young Playwrights’ staff works closely with each teacher to tailor the program to meet the needs of the particular setting and the student population.  In addition to traditional classrooms, programs can be fashioned for specific time periods, afterschool settings, and to align with specific curricula.

Enhanced Program

Schools may purchase additional services from the Enhanced Program Menu to supplement the core program.  The Menu includes the following opportunities:

  • Additional teaching artist hours
  • Classroom visits by professional actors and other theatre artists
  • Trips to see professional theater
