On Wednesday, February 1st, Youth Council member and Science Leadership Academy senior Gina Dukes attended the first meeting of the School Reform Commission’s Student Safety and Engagement Committee at the Philadelphia School District’s building on Broad Street. There, she performed a spoken-word piece that addressed the new committee’s main fields of interest: student safety and school violence. See this video of her performance here! See this clip for interviews from a few of the winners as they talk about the importance of this session, as well as clips where they discuss segments that they wan to revise. Young Voices Monologue Festival will play at InterACT Theatre from March 28-31.
